Krillin using the technique
Solar Flare (太陽拳, Taiyōken) is a defensive-type technique invented by Tienshinhan back in the original Dragon Ball series. In order to use the technique, the user must place both hands in front of their face and call out the name of the technique, which then emits a bright white light that blinds everyone who sees the light minus the user themself. This technique is used so far by Goku, Krillin and Cell.
Running Gag[]
In DragonBall Z Abridged starting in episode 15, there is a running gag in which a person who gets caught seeing a Solar Flare will see a very disturbing image for one frame before covering their eyes.

Trivia[]
- The only way to avoid the Solar Flare technique is by simply blinking, which was mentioned by Cell in the 2014 Halloween special.
- It was actually first done by Goku against Vegeta during the Saiyan Saga, but no image was really shown. However, judging by the latter's reaction and how he described seeing the technique, it is possible that he saw an image of Freeza naked (likely the same image that Dodoria saw in episode 15).
Usage[]
It's good to mention the second time they have taken use of this defensive-type technique in Dragon Ball manga chapter 179 and anime episode 141. Goku and Tien were having an intense battle in the World Martial Arts Tournament (世界武術大会, Tenkaichi Būdokai, lit. "Strongest Under The Heavens Tournament"). While Tien was about to hit Goku with an energy blast in the air, Goku reached from the Sun, shouting out loud in the English dub, “SOLAR FLARE!” (太陽拳, Taiyōken, lit. "Sun Fist" or "Solar Fist").
